Who can be an adopter of a child in Ukraine

An adopter of a child may be a legally capable person at the age of at least twenty-one years old, except when the adopter is a relative of the child. An adopter may be a person older than the child, whom he/ she wishes to adopt, by at least fifteen years.

Adopters cannot be of the same sex.

The persons, who are not married to each other, cannot adopt the same child. If such persons live in the same family, the court may decide on the adoption of the child by them.

If the child has only the mother, he/she cannot be adopted by a man, who is not married to his/ her mother. If the child has only the farther, he cannot be adopted by a woman, who is not married to his/ her farther. If such persons live in the same family, the court may decide on the adoption of the child by them.

The person, who wants to adopt a child in Ukraine, will be checked in the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, Interpol for criminal record and criminal proceedings against this person.

 

Who can be adopted in Ukraine

As a general rule, a foreigner can adopt a child, who is aged from 5 to 18 and is duly registered for adoption for at least 1 year.
